Internet Safety Day

Children at Herne View Primary School in Ilminster joined thousands of pupils across the country in celebrating Safer Internet Day with a focus on the fast‑growing world of artificial intelligence.

Across the school, pupils took part in dedicated lessons exploring how AI is used in everyday life, the benefits it can bring, and the challenges it can pose. Year 5 pupils particularly enjoyed discussing when it is appropriate—and not appropriate—to use AI, thinking carefully about real‑life situations and the importance of making responsible choices online.

The day also included a Key Stage assembly, where children reflected on how AI might shape the future and learned key messages about staying safe and using technology thoughtfully. Staff praised pupils for their curiosity, maturity and enthusiasm throughout the activities.

By taking part in Safer Internet Day alongside other schools nationwide, Herne View Primary School continues to support pupils in developing the digital awareness and critical thinking skills they need in an increasingly digital world.
