Use of mobile technology by pupils

Mobile phones

We appreciate that our pupils are living in an age where mobile technology is an integral part of their lives. In school we want to work with families to support by ensuring we include within our curriculum, content related to the benefits and potential risks of this technology so that children can keep themselves safe whilst benefitting from each new advance in technology.

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education we are aware of the risks of online peer to peer abuse through mobile technology and as a school have a policy that children may not use mobile phones within school. We are aware that some children walk by themselves to and from school and have mobile phones as a safety measure, therefore children can drop their phones into the office on arrival to school in the morning and collect these when they leave school at the end of the day. Pupils should have their mobile phones off however whilst on any part of the school premises including when entering and leaving school. As a school we cannot take responsibility for any mobile phones left in the school office during the day.

Other mobile technology

Smart watches should also not be worn within school and should also be left at the office in a morning and collected at the end of the day. Any other mobile/smart technology with the facility to take photographs, send messages etc is also not allowed for pupils within the school.

As a general rule, the school would not expect pupils in year groups below Year 5 to be bring mobile/smart phones to school. If an exception is required please discuss this with your child's class teacher.
