Climate Action Plan

At Herne View we believe we are educating our pupils to be effective future citizens who will all play their parts in supporting their communities, countries and the wider world.

A key initiative of the Department for Education (DfE) Sustainability and Climate Change strategy is climate action plans (CAP) and sustainability leadership. The strategy states:

“By 2025, all education settings will have nominated a sustainability lead and put in place a climate action plan”

Our Climate Action Plan allows us to take a structured and strategic approach toward responding to and educating about sustainability. Above all the plan needs to translate into action so that pupils and the whole school community get to see the positive difference their actions make.

Our Sustainability Lead is Claire Oaten and our Climate Action Plan group is made up of pupils, staff, parents/carers and Governors who together have looked at key areas of our school and environment and considered where they hope change can be made.

All of the actions link with the DfE’s sustainability and climate change strategy:

Decarbonisation- Reduce emissions and support students to be part of the transition to net zero.

Biodiversity- Enhance biodiversity, improve air quality and increase access to, and connection with, nature.

Adaptation and Resilience- Adapt our buildings and systems to prepare for the effects of climate change.

Climate education and green careers- Prepare students for a world impacted by climate change through education & practice.

Please take a look at our plan and we welcome any community support to help us in our key action areas:
