PE

"Never let the fear of striking out stop you from playing the game." — Babe Ruth

Why do we teach PE?

Physical education is a vital part of our curriculum at Herne View Church of England Primary School. It supports children physical, social and emotional development. Through PE, pupils learn how to lead active, healthy lives and understand the importance of regular exercise for both body and mind. It helps to build confidence, resilience and teamwork, whilst also improving coordination, balance and overall fitness. We believe that positive experiences in PE at primary school lay the foundations for lifelong participation in physical activity.

How do we teach PE?

We teach PE through a broad and balanced curriculum that develops fundamental movement skills alongside sport specific knowledge and understanding. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build skills progressively, ensuring all children can succeed and be challenged. Pupils take part in a range of activities such as games, gymnastics, dance and swimming. We create a supportive and inclusive environment where children can be safe to try new skills, work collaboratively and celebrate one another’s achievements.
