Life Education visit

We have welcomed back Coram Life Education for another visit. As a school we follow their SCARF (Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship) scheme for PSHE and every January all our pupils from pre-school to Year 6 have a visit from one of their outreach teachers along with Harold the Giraffe. During these workshops, children meet Harold, the giraffe puppet (‘Healthy Harold’) and friends, and have discussions and watch short films. Topics build year on year and are appropriate to children’s age and include discussions about healthy eating, drugs – legal and illegal – and their effects, the body and how it works, friendships and their influence, and how choices and behaviours can affect children’s health and education outcomes.  As children develop discussions get them to challenge social norms, understanding misperceptions of peers’ engagement with risky behaviour, to engender more positive behaviours.

Growing up isn’t easy and it’s important that we offer our children as much support as we can so that they can grow firstly, enjoying their childhoods and secondly, being prepared to grow into well rounded teenagers and future young adults
