Sustainable Futures Visit
This week, a small group of keen Year 5 and 6 scientists had the wonderful opportunity to represent our school at the Somerset Sustainable Futures event.
Our day began with talks and activities from keynote speakers (including a personal video welcome from a Vice President at NVIDIA!) relating to the benefits of new technology and artificial intelligence.
Next, we visited the careers fair, which was attended by employers from many different sectors including utilities, healthcare, construction, agriculture and more. The representatives provided a selection of different activities and spoke with the children about how they are promoting sustainability in their industry. A highlight for many of the children was the opportunity to pilot drones!
After a brief lunch break, we gave a presentation about whether new technology is harming or helping the planet. The children made us very proud, and it was incredible to see the result of their hard work in preparing this over the past few weeks. Then there were questions from the audience, to which our speakers gave eloquent and considered responses.
Ivy C said, "My favourite part was the stand where we had to label parts of the cow. They even gave us our own cow squishy!"
Owen said, "I really enjoyed hearing the presentations given by the other schools."
Many thanks to Miss Eliiott for organising, Miss Smith for joining us, the Somerset Careers Hub for organising this superb event, and to all the employers who gave up their time to speak with the children!
