VE Day 80th Anniversary

All of us at Herne View marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day in a respectful manner. In classes we did a range of activities including finding out about what VE Day or Victory in Europe Day is actually all about, some classes created posters or information sheets, some listened to the famous speech by Winston Churchill and watched the scenes from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

All children in the school decorated their own handheld flag that as kindly donated by Ilminster Town Council in the colours and theme of VE day and were able to take these home at the end of the day. In addition to this, as a school we all stopped for 2 minutes at midday as part of the national period of silence to remember those who helped our country.

Earlier in the morning, the whole school walked across to the recreation ground to listen to the Mayor give a speech on VE Day whilst some students from year 4 & 5 read out a selection of poems created for the anniversary. Some parents, councilors and other VIPs were also present for this. We hope that all children will remember the importance of this day in years to come and remember how we marked it as a school.
