Our Learning Over Previous Terms

A Look Back at Our Summer 1 Journey 2026

As Authors, the children learned the key skills needed to write a clear and effective set of instructions. They developed their understanding of sequencing, used imperative verbs, and included precise details to help the reader. We also celebrated No Pens Day on Wednesday 20th May, where children communicated their ideas through talk, drama, movement and practical activities. As Mathematicians, the children learned all about fractions. Once the children had explored fractions, they moved on to learning about money, developing skills in recognising coins and solving real‑life problems. As Scientists, the children explored what makes a healthy plant grow. They carried out experiments by changing different variables, such as water, light and warmth, and observed how these changes affected plant growth. As Historians, the children learned about the significant impact that Mary Anning and Christopher Columbus had on the world, exploring why they are remembered and how their discoveries influenced history. In RE, the children focused on learning about the Jewish faith, developing their understanding of beliefs, traditions and celebrations. In Music, the children explored beats and rhythms from around the world, listening to and performing music inspired by different cultures. Swimming sessions also took place this term, which were always a highlight for the children and an important opportunity to develop confidence and life‑saving skills.

A Look Back at Our Autumn Term 2 Journey 2025

The children and staff are had a very busy and exciting term! First, stepping into the role of Historians, exploring the tragic events of the Great Fire of London and discovering how it helped shape modern fire safety. In November we, took time to reflect on Remembrance and why it is important.
As Artists, we studied the types of houses that were built during the time of the Great Fire, we looked at artwork that showed the Great Fire and used collage to create our own Great Fire of London art piece. As Scientists we focused our enquiries on the human body and the five senses, as well as observing the seasonal changes as Autumn transitioned into Winter. It was a term full of creativity, curiosity, and discovery!

Events we all took part in:

  • KS1 and EYFS Firework Day – a celebration full of drama, dance, and the creative arts.
  • STEM Water Workshop - an engaging workshop led by Wessex Water.
  • Parent Christmas Craft Morning – a festive opportunity for families to get creative together.

A Look Back at Our Autumn Term 1 Journey 2025

The children settled into the new term wonderfully and showed great enthusiasm for our learning topics. Last term, we explored our local county town of Taunton in Geography, discovering what made it special and how it connected to our lives. In Art, we dived into the world of landscapes, using different materials and techniques to express the beauty of nature. Our Science lessons focused on food chains and animal classes, helping us understand how living things depend on each other. In RE, we thought deeply about what Christians believe God looks like, encouraging thoughtful discussion and creativity. We also celebrated the Harvest Festival at the Minster. This was a lovely opportunity to come together as a school community!
